A pretty good watch for the money. Alarm not trivial to set, but not so complex you have to dig out the instruction manual. A lot of mass to this watch. Most disappointing – after 18 months, the small painted ring with the alarm setting instructions has worn down to the bare brass. So, not as sturdy as I would have liked. Otherwise, no functional problems.

I’ve already been through 3 Timex watches now, but I got this one for my girlfriend awhile back, and I liked it so much I decided to get one for myself.

The first watch had the Indiglo feature, which made it perfect for wearing to the movies. The second watch had both a chronograph and Indiglo and an alarm, so I thought that was pretty cool for the price. First the Indiglo went out, and the replacement I got lasted a few months before the alarm went out. So, I’m hoping for better with this watch.

This watch is the best looking one of them all, with a very handsome band that would look good at the beach, on a date or in the boardroom. It’s a lot easier to set than most alarm watches, and easier to set than most other Timex watches, as you can turn the outer dial instead of the crown to set everything — nice touch. And, all the instructions are on the outer ring and the back of the watch, so you can lose the instructions no problem.

As I said, I got this for my girlfriend, and it’s size makes it a lot easier to read than those dainty women’s watches, yet it looks good on women or men. Great gift for the money, and the recipient will really appreciate the alarm.

I can’t give it 5 starts because of my previous experience with Timex watches, but for some reason I keep getting them again, hence the 4 star review. If you want a watch that will last you the rest of your life, and then some, my Omega is over 40 years old, and my neighbor has some Rolex watches that are a lot older than that. But, you should know that when they need service, and they will, each service will cost you a lot of Timex watches.

  • I am very pleased with my Timex easy set alarm wrist watch. It is, indeed, easy to set. I use it about twice a day.

  • I’ve had several men’s Expeditions in my watch box for the last twenty years. I have a handful of really high end watches from Patek Philippe to Citizen, but I love these Timex watches. I am really rough on my every day watches and buy a new one every few years or so and I am very happy with this latest version of the Expedition. Along with the fact that the analog display is just so easy to read and the indiglo makes it worry free night or day and that it keeps such accurate time, I think the “easy alarm” feature is genius. I use it practically every day, be it a quick nap at lunch or home, a business trip because wake up calls are so unpredictable, or for remembering an important meeting. All that for under $50!!! WOW, what a great value. It is simple and quick to use and so handy. Timex hit a home run with this watch.

The only things tht would make this a five star watch is for Timex to figure out a way to elimiate batteries. What a waste of time and money changing batteries are. Citizen’s Eco-Drive system is amazing and while I surly don’t expect that level of technology in a $40 watch, I’d pay more for an Expedition if I never had to replace the battery. Nonetheless, I sure hope they never discontinue the line. I’m still very rough on my Timex but I know that in a few years, I’ll just buy another one and enjoy it just as much.

Bottom line: Highly recommended 4.5 stars

An excellent watch. I wore it for the last 5 years and I did not tried to protected it at all. It still works great.

Pros: Nice design. Comfortable. Useful features, like alarm, very easy to set. Indiglo light works great. Water resistant – indeed.

Cons: The painted parts are going to defoliate soon after you start to use the watch (the black ring), exposing the copper underneath. The leather strap is going to rigidify after a while, if you intend to wear it while taking the showers.
